When we talk about yield, we talk about the furfural that theoretically could be made from a 100% pentosan conversion.

100% yield = 72.72 lb of FF from 100 lb Pentosan

60% yield = 43.63 lb of FF from 100 lb Pentosan

Pentosan + water -----> pentose (C₅H₈O₄)_n + nH₂O -----> nC₅H₁₀O₅

Pentose -----> water + furfural C₅H₁₀O₅ -----> C₅H₄O₂ + 3H₂O

Pentosan Content (PC) is expressed as % of dry matter, when we talk about 30% PC, we mean 30 lb of Pentosan in 100 lb of dry matter.
